Celebrating Diversity: Kincardine with Pride

The Municipality of Kincardine is as diverse as it is vibrant, with people from all walks of life coming together to celebrate their identities and experiences.

Our welcoming spirit

The variety of cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives adds depth to our community’s history, fostering a sense of unity and understanding among its residents.

The Municipality of Kincardine understands the importance of inclusion and acceptance. We are proud to take part in year-round celebrations and support of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. We are thrilled that Kincardine has earned a reputation as a welcoming and accepting destination for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

This is all anchored during Pride Month each June – an opportunity for all members of our community, our restaurants, shops, and public spaces, to support and celebrate our welcoming spirit.

Working towards equity and inclusion

From our early days in the Municipality of Kincardine, our community has worked to embrace diversity and celebrate the contributions of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals into our vibrant cultural tapestry. In 2022, the municipality led two well-attended Rainbow Diversity training sessions to bring information and education to members of our community, creating opportunities for understanding and dialogue.

One of the highlights of Kincardine's calendar is our annual Pride Parade & Celebrations, which stands as a testament to the community's unwavering support for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Celebrating love

As the County's original and longest-running Pride parade, it attracts participants and spectators from near and far, creating a colourful, joyous, family-friendly celebration of love, acceptance, and conversation. Downtown Kincardine comes alive with hundreds of residents and visitors coming out to celebrate, both from the 2SLGBTQ+ community and those looking to show their support and join a great party!

Kincardine’s Pride Parade & Celebrations returns this year as an energetic celebration of all on June 22, 2024. The day starts with the parade at 11 a.m.

From there, between Dunsmoor Park and MacPherson Park, a celebration of family-friendly activities will commence. All are welcome to attend. Kincardine PRIDE is hosting artist Sarah Smith for an evening of electrifying music at The Kincardine Centre for the Arts tickets available for $10.

Kincardine Pride also offers a range of supportive resources and services for the LGBT community, from advocacy groups and support networks to 2SLGBTQ+  friendly businesses and healthcare providers.

Acceptance for all

While we’ve made significant strides in promoting 2SLGBTQ+ rights and acceptance, the work is far from over. We continue to advocate for equality, inclusivity, and social justice, partnering with local organizations and activists to create a more equitable and welcoming society for all.
